The Peer Project - Youth Assisting Youth é uma organização sem fins lucrativos que vem investindo nos líderes de amanhã e transformando a vida de jovens em situação de risco e recém-chegados há mais de 40 anos. Com sede em Toronto e na região de York, o The Peer Project oferece orientação para jovens e programas para jovens em situação de risco, projetados para capacitar os jovens a atingir todo o seu potencial.
No The Peer Project, acreditamos que todo jovem merece uma chance de sucesso. Entendemos que muitos jovens enfrentam desafios significativos em suas vidas, incluindo pobreza, isolamento social, problemas de saúde mental e discriminação. É por isso que oferecemos uma variedade de programas personalizados para atender às necessidades exclusivas de cada indivíduo.
Nosso principal programa é o nosso programa de orientação de pares. Este programa une jovens em situação de risco com mentores voluntários treinados que são jovens entre 16 e 29 anos. Nossos mentores vêm de diversas origens e passaram por muitos dos mesmos desafios que nossos pupilos. Eles fornecem orientação, apoio e amizade para ajudar seus pupilos a superar obstáculos e alcançar seus objetivos.
Nosso programa de orientação de pares provou ser eficaz em ajudar os jovens a melhorar seu desempenho acadêmico, desenvolver relacionamentos positivos com colegas e adultos, construir auto-estima e confiança, reduzir comportamentos de risco, como uso de drogas ou envolvimento com gangues.
Além de nosso programa de orientação de pares, também oferecemos outros programas, como clubes de lição de casa após a escola para alunos do ensino fundamental; oficinas de desenvolvimento de liderança para alunos do ensino médio; serviços de liquidação para recém-chegados; formação de prontidão para o emprego; grupos de apoio à saúde mental; acampamento de verao; atividades recreativas como equipes esportivas ou aulas de artes.
Todos os nossos programas são projetados com ênfase na construção de resiliência entre os participantes para que possam lidar melhor com os desafios da vida enquanto desenvolvem as habilidades necessárias para o sucesso na vida adulta.
